Court orders Sokha to stand trial on January 15 for treason


The Phnom Penh Municipal Court has set January 15 as the preliminary date for Kem Sokha, the previous leader of the Supreme Court-broke down Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) who is under court-regulated abandon a conspiracy charge.

In an official statement gave on Monday, the civil court said Sokha will stand preliminary on the intrigue charge under Article 443 of the Criminal Code.

The choice came after the Court of Appeal decided that he stay under court-directed abandon a charge of "trick with a remote power".

The Appeal Court on Monday held a two-hour shut entryway hearing to choose whether to put Sokha on preliminary.

Managed by Judge Khun Leang Meng, the conference was gone to by Sokha's safeguard group of Chan Chen, Meng Sopheary, Phen Heng, and Phan Chansak, just as government legal counselor Ky Tech.

The Appeal Court dismissed an intrigue recorded by Sokha's safeguard legal counselors against the court's choice that he be sent to preliminary. It said Articles 249, 267 and 404 of the Criminal Code didn't take into account an intrigue against the last arraignment to send the blamed to preliminary.

Concerning its choice to keep on putting [Sokha] under court supervision, the Appeal Court said Sokha carried out wrongdoing that genuinely influenced national security.

The Appeal Court's hearing came after barrier legal advisors documented an objection recorded as a hard copy against the last prosecution and Sokha's proceeded with the position under court supervision.

Phen Heng, one of Sokha's four-guard legal counselors, disclosed to The Post on Monday that his group had no real option except to pursue court technique.

"In the event that the court proceeds with the procedures, regardless we need to pursue. For legal advisors, regardless we observe and see what the charge isn't supported by enough proof, so we trust that the judge will drop the charge.

"The specialists utilized just the video cut as a premise which prompted an examination, however, they didn't have solid proof to help the video cut. Every one of the observers that the judges brought in to affirm didn't give answers that could put a lawful weight on Sokha," he said.

Chan Chen, another of Sokha's barrier legal advisors, told journalists after the meeting that the Appeal Court's choice was crooked.

"We emphatically lament that the Appeal Court didn't give equity to my customer according to our solicitation."

He said the group will proceed in this fight in court, however, he communicated high trusts in talks between legislators to discover an answer for the case for national compromise and interests.
